Les Twentyman, a beloved figure in Melbourne known for his advocacy for youth and social justice, is being remembered as an iconic and truly remarkable Australian following his passing at the age of 76 in Melbourne.

The establishment of the Les Twentyman Foundation, aimed at aiding at-risk youth through educational and outreach initiatives, stands as a testament to his commitment to making a difference.

In a statement released by his foundation, it was expressed that Les' unwavering dedication to assisting those in need has had a profoundly positive impact on the lives of countless young Victorians and their families, leaving an enduring legacy of compassion and service.

Les Twentyman was one-of-a-kind.  He made Melbourne better through small acts of kindness over decades.  He saw potential in every troubled teen.  It's encouraging there are still people fighting to support youth.  Les will be remembered for using his big heart to change lives. 

Les faced the unvarnished truth throughout his life — he was the voice of the voiceless, and his lifetime was devoted to assisting the underprivileged and those in need. This is a legacy that will endure long beyond his extraordinary life . Federal Government Service Minister Bill Shorten remembered Mr. Twentyman as “one of Melbourne’s best-known figures.” ... I was able to speak with him earlier this week; he was still working. My condolences and prayers go out to his family, friends, and coworkers.

The local representative for Footscray, Katie Hall passed her condolences and also her recognition for the profound connection Mr. Twentyman shared with the area he was raised in, calling him “a true son of the west.” “Les Twentyman dedicated his life to making a positive and lasting impact on young lives,” she said. I always loved his stories about Braybrook and football, but he never came alive when he spoke about his work with kids and his foundation. Whether it was giving poor people Christmas gifts to his making sure young people had their textbooks, or even organizing basketball games, Les was selfless to anyone who neederbeneverly relied on him. Rest in peace, Les. Our community is better and stronger because of the countless things you did.

Originating from Braybrook, the esteemed youth outreach worker and community activist devoted his life to enhancing the well-being of young people in Melbourne’s western regions. According to a statement from the council, Mr. Twentyman’s established Les Twentyman Foundation has been offering assistance to at-risk youth for over three decades, driven by his belief that every child and young person, irrespective of economic circumstances, race, or gender, deserves an equal opportunity in life.
